UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute Launches Fire Pattern Course for Fire Investigators

The UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute (FSRI) has released the new “Impact of Ventilation on Fire Damage Patterns” course for fire investigators. Through a project funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), UL FSRI has been studying how changes in fuel materials and ventilation effect the development of fire damage patterns in residential fires. Understanding fire dynamics is essential to understanding fire damage patterns and identifying a fire’s area of origin based on the scientific method.

UL FSRI Firefighter Safety Training Course on Photovoltaic Systems Now Available

Solar power has become a fast-growing energy source. Over the past couple decades, the number of new photovoltaic (PV) systems installations has increased sharply worldwide. As more PV systems are installed, the likelihood increases that fires will occur on buildings with PV systems, making it critical for firefighters to receive evidence-based training. Traditional firefighter tactics for suppression, ventilation, and overhaul are complicated by PV systems, leaving firefighters vulnerable to severe hazards.
