Thermal runaway of lithium-ion cells and batteries, which leads to very high temperatures with fire and/or smoke, can occur due to many different off-nominal conditions, broadly categorized into thermal, mechanical, and electrical.
Vice President and Executive Director of the Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI) Dr. Judy Jeevarajan will speak on "Characterizing Thermal Runaway and Mitigating the Propagation of Thermal Runaway in Lithium-Ion Battery Modules" at the ECS Symposium 2024 at the University of Texas at Austin on Sept. 14 at 11:30 a.m. CDT.
